Howdy folks, and welcome to another exciting cruise update from yours truly!

We are currently cruising the Carribbean Sea and heading swiftly towards the Dutch island of Curacao.  The last ten-day cruise my parents and brother have been on board for a family vacation.  It was very nice spending time with my family and for them to get to see where I work.   We enjoyed visiting six different islands, beginning with Curacao, and working our way around to St. Thomas.  Thus far, my favorite island has been St. Lucia. The majestic mountains and lush landscape took my breath away.

They flew home the other day from Fort Lauderdale, and the ship departed to repeat the exact same itinerary.  After this cruise, we will have a two-week cruise spanning the holidays, during which we will have nine ports of call.  On that cruise we will get to see some destinations only featured on that itinerary this season, including Cristobal (Panama), Dominica, and Tortola.  I have heard that Dominica and Tortola are some of the prettiest islands around, so I am excited to see how they compare next to my impressions of St. Lucia.

In addition to performing every day, I sometimes volunteer to help out with other events that the entertainment staff is in charge of.  Today I was invited to be a model for the jewelry fashion show.  I showed of three different beautiful collections by H. Stern for the guests.  It was a lot of fun, and I've agreed to do it again next cruise too.
Tomorrow night I will be participating in the special choral performance for Santa Lucia day.  This holiday is widely celebrated in Sweden.  I will be playing the part of Santa Lucia and wearing a crown of candles on my head as I lead the procession.  All of our choir members will be wearing beautiful white robes sent over from Sweden.  After we sing carols for the guests, we will also go down to the crew bar and give a performance, which will kick off the party being held there.

Next week I am supposed to be getting a different roommate.  Some of the entertainment staff are going home for the holidays, and new people are coming on, so they are shuffling cabin assignments around.  My current roommate, Laura, is moving to a different cabin on the lower level.  I hope that whoever moves in with me next will be as nice as she is!  Because of the shuffle, I have also gotten a different safety assignment.  I now help calm the passengers and explain safety procedures to them in an emergency, and I have to attend all the safety drills.  Before, I was given a "supernumerary" assignment, which meant I had passenger status in an emergency and I did not have to go to any drills past the first two held since my embarkation.

Tonight I perform in the Britannia Restaurant for two dinner seatings, then I move down to the Grand Lobby.  I've started playing some of my Christmas music in keeping with our current Advent season, supplementing my varied repertoire of classical, pop, and jazz.

Well, that's all for now, until next time!  Y'all take care!

A belated Merry Christmas to all y'all!

Right now we are docked in Barbados.  This whole week has been a frenzy of fun parties and activities.  I enjoyed going down to the Winter Wonderland party on Christmas Eve, and tomorrow night I might stop down at the pop idol karaoke contest for a bit.

This cruise I am getting more chances to do some tours.  The other day in Bonaire, I took a wonderful tour of the Mangrove forests.  These unique trees grow in the backwaters of the ocean, but they need fresh water to live.  Our guide explained the fascinating process by which they extract the salt from the water and absorb only the purified water.
Tomorrow I am taking a ride through the rainforests of St. Lucia in a 4x4 Jeep.

My new roommate is super nice!  Her name is Barbara, and she is one of the four Polish musicians in the string quartet.  We have been getting along very well.  She is older than I am (she has two teenage daughters back home), so it is kind of like having a surrogate mom or big sister on board.

Despite all the fun adventures I am having on board, I am looking forward to coming home again.  My contract officially ends January 13th, on which day I expect to be traveling to Austin.  It will be good to see my family and friends again!

I wish everyone a Happy New Year in advance, with best of luck for 2009!
